About Contractor History

A plain-English page for every registered Washington contractor, built from the state's own public records, with the history the state's lookup does not keep.

Why it exists

Before hiring a contractor in Washington, a homeowner can check the registration, bond and insurance on the state's Verify a Contractor page. That page shows today's status. It does not show that the registration was suspended last spring, that the bond was canceled and replaced, or that the insurance carrier changed, and it does not show the consumer complaints the Attorney General's office records separately.

This site reads the state's open datasets every night and keeps what they said. A contractor's page shows the current records, the complaint records matched to the business, and what changed and when, each with its source and date. It was built in Washington State and went live in October 2026.

Who runs it

Contractor History is an independent site operated by Contractor History LLC, a Washington State company. It is not part of the Department of Labor & Industries, the Attorney General's office or any government agency, and it is not a contractor, a bond company or an insurer. No one here is paid by any contractor to show, hide or change a record.

Where the records come from

Five datasets that Washington State publishes on data.wa.gov: the Department of Labor & Industries' contractor registration, bond, insurance and principal data, and the Attorney General's consumer complaint data. The records are shown as published. What we check names each dataset, says how often it is read, how complaints are matched, and what is not included.

How the site is paid for

Every contractor page is free to read and free for the contractor to claim. Two paid things are planned, and both are labeled when they appear: featured placement on a city page for a business with a verified claim, shown under a "Paid placement" label, and a full history report compiled from the same records. Neither changes a record, a status, a search result or the order of any list. The site sells no leads, shows no ads, and collects no homeowner's contact details. See the state pageand What "Featured" means.

What this site is not

It is not a recommendation for or against any contractor, not a review site and not a consumer report. A complaint record means a complaint was filed, nothing more. The termssay how the information may be used.

Email hello@contractorhistory.com. For an error on a page, include the license number and what you found; for a correction to the state's own record, the agency that publishes it has to make it, and the page updates after the dataset does. Replies take a few business days.
