Terms of use

By using Contractor History you agree to these terms. They are short because the site is simple: it shows public records and lets the businesses in them add their own words. Effective October 18, 2026.

1. Who we are

Contractor History ("the site", "we") is operated by Contractor History LLC, a Washington State company. It is independent of every government agency. "You" means anyone who uses the site, including a contractor who claims a page.

2. What the information is

The contractor pages are built from public records that Washington State publishes as open data, shown as published, with the source and date of each section. We copy the records nightly and keep what they said, so a page can also show what changed and when. We do not verify the records against anything other than the state's datasets, and a record may be incomplete, out of date or wrong at the source. What we check explains the sources, the matching of complaints, and what is not included.

3. What the information is not

The site is not a consumer reporting agency and the information is not a consumer report under the Fair Credit Reporting Act or any similar law. You may not use it to decide whether to employ someone, extend credit, insure, rent to or otherwise evaluate a person for a purpose covered by those laws. The site is not a recommendation for or against any contractor, not a rating, and not legal advice. A complaint, bond claim or lawsuit record shows that a filing was made; it does not establish that anyone did anything wrong.

4. How you may use the site

You may read the pages and use what you learn to look into a contractor you are thinking of hiring, or to look into your own business. You may link to any page. You may not copy the site's pages or records in bulk by automated means, republish the collection, use the site to harass or threaten anyone, try to get around the controls on claimed pages or the admin area, or put a load on the site that interferes with others. A search engine indexing the public pages is fine.

5. Claimed pages

A contractor may claim the page for a license they hold by proving it as described on the claim page. By adding text, a logo or contact details you confirm that you have the right to use them and that they are true, and you give us permission to show them on the page for as long as the claim stands. You are responsible for what you add. We may remove anything that is unlawful, misleading, names a private person, or breaks the rules on the edit page, and we may revoke a claim, with the reason sent to you. Nothing you add changes a government record. A claim and anything added under it end when the claim is revoked or you ask us to close your account; the state's records stay.

When featured placement is offered, its price, term and cancellation rules are shown at the time of purchase, and those are part of these terms for that purchase. Placement is labeled "Paid placement" on the page and changes nothing else: not the records, not the status shown, not search results or the order of any list. Payment is handled by Stripe under its own terms.

7. No warranty

The site is provided as it is. We do not promise that it is complete, accurate, current or available at any time, and we make no warranty of any kind, stated or implied. Before relying on a record, confirm it with the agency that publishes it.

8. Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site or relying on anything on it, including a decision to hire or not to hire a contractor, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, if any.

Pages link to state datasets, to L&I's Verify a Contractor page, and to websites that claimed businesses provide. Those sites have their own terms, and we are not responsible for them.

10. Changes and law

We may change these terms; the date at the top is the date of the current version, and using the site after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the law of Washington State, and any dispute is heard in the courts of Washington State. If part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.

11. Contact

Questions about these terms go to hello@contractorhistory.com. The privacy page says what the site collects and keeps.
