What this site collects, what it does with it, and how long it keeps it. Last updated October 13, 2026.
The contractor records
Every contractor page is built from public records published by Washington State: contractor registration, bond, insurance and principal records from the Department of Labor & Industries, and consumer complaint records from the Office of the Attorney General, all throughdata.wa.gov. TheWhat we check page names each dataset and says when it was last synced.
These records are published by the state, not collected by us from you. We copy them nightly, keep earlier versions so that changes can be shown, and present them as they are. We cannot change or remove what a state record says. If a record is wrong, the correction has to be made with the agency that publishes it; the What we check page explains how. A contractor who has claimed a profile can add a response next to a record, but the record itself stays as published.
Visitors
You can read every contractor and directory page without an account. The site sets no cookies for visitors who are not signed in, and uses no advertising, analytics or tracking scripts. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps standard server logs (IP address, requested page, browser type) for security and operation, which we do not use to identify visitors.
Searches are processed on our servers and are not stored against you.
Contractors who claim a profile
A contractor can claim the page for a license they hold. Claiming is free. To do it we collect:
- Your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time link and to tell you the outcome of your claim. Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes and work once.
- A verification document: a photo or PDF of your L&I registration card, a bond or insurance certificate, or another business document that shows the license number, plus any note you add. It is used only to confirm that you are the license holder.
- What you choose to publish on your page: a logo, website, description, service area, hours, public contact details, and responses to record sections. These are shown publicly, in a block labeled as provided by the contractor.
- A log of claim activity: when you signed in, submitted a claim, were approved or rejected, and edited your page.
If you reached the claim page from a letter or email we sent, the link may carry a short tag that tells us which mailing it came from. The tag is stored with your claim and nowhere else.
How long verification documents are kept
Verification documents are stored privately and are seen only by the person reviewing the claim. They are deleted automatically 30 days after the claim is approved or rejected. The record that a document was sent, and the decision, are kept so that the claim history stays complete. The form tells you this before you upload.
Cookies
One cookie is set, only after you sign in. It keeps you signed in for 30 days, is sent only to this site, and holds nothing but a random session identifier. Signing out removes it. There are no tracking, advertising or third-party cookies.
We send email only for sign-in links, claim decisions and matters about your claimed page. Messages are sent through Resend, an email delivery service, which processes the address and message to deliver them. We do not send newsletters or marketing email to claimed accounts, and we never sell or share email addresses.
Payments
Paid features are handled by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's pages and never reach our servers; we receive confirmation of the payment and the email address used. Stripe's own privacy policy covers what it collects.
Who else sees your information
The services that run the site: Cloudflare (hosting, storage and database), Resend (email) and Stripe (payments). Each processes only what it needs to do its job. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Your choices
- You can edit or remove anything you published on your claimed page at any time.
- You can ask us to close your account and delete the information we hold about you. The public state records stay, because they are the state's, not ours.
- You can ask what information we hold about you.
Write to stephanie.contractorhistory@gmail.com for any of these. We reply within a few business days.
Children
The site is for adults checking or claiming contractor records. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this page
If what we collect changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. Changes that affect claimed accounts are also sent by email.
